Holly Rose never dreamed of founding a non-profit until she battled breast cancer and received endless acts of kindness from her community to help her and her family get through a terrifying and difficult time in their life. Wanting to give back and create a legacy her daughters would be proud of she founded the non-profit Don’t be a Chump! Check for a Lump! with the help of her childhood friends.
Holly’s passion and unwavering commitment to educate and assist has been honored with many esteemed awards including: Phoenix Business Journal Health Care Hero Award Category Education Finalist, Arizona Foothills Magazine Best of 2017 Most Influential Woman in Valley Non-Profit, Trendsetter in the Valley and one of nine women honored for Women Who Move the Valley. 2016 Top 25 MASK Unity Moms Making a Difference Award 2016, Nominee for the Beth McDonald Woman of the Year Award 2014. In addition, Holly is a self-published author: Live and Give: Facebooking My Way Through Breast Cancer.
Holly’s proudest accomplishment outside of work is her marriage of twenty-four years to her one and only true love, John, and their two incredible girls Hannah and Ivy. Having faced her mortality she is extremely grateful for every day and treasures every memory made with her family and friends. She gives thanks to God for keeping her alive and placing her on a beautiful and rewarding path.
Kate Kunberger JD
Kate is an attorney specializing in entertainment-related intellectual property litigation. She earned her B.A. from University of Arizona, and her J.D. from New York University, School of Law. Kate has a passion for international travel and has been to over 50 countries.
Mrs. Alstad has a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Arizona State University and has specialized in procurement management for the majority of her working career. Including both retail and wholesale experience, Erin is currently the Director of Client Services for an e-procurement software company. She is in charge of an eight member team and is responsible for executing best practices to achieve the best results and exceed client expectations. Erin originally met Holly while attending Pendergast Elementary School. They were fast friends but as time went on and school districts realigned distance grew, but some friendships you never forget. In 2010 Erin attended Holly's first Fall Fling Event. As she left the event she found herself thinking about Don’t be a Chump! Check for a Lump! and wanted to do more, give more and participate more in worthy causes. Erin is excited to be a part of the Don't be a Chump, Check for a Lump! team
Mikala is a native Phoenician and breast cancer conqueror diagnosed in 2011 at the young age of 25. At the time of her diagnosis she was pursing her graduate degree and working as a Recreational Therapist. Following her diagnosis and treatment Mikala threw herself into the cancer world. She decided that this experience would not define her; rather she wanted to help others with her story. In 2012 Mikala began working to bring resources to young women with breast cancer in Arizona. As the months turned into years Mikala realized her story was evolving. She realized the hands on application of health and wellness and helping individuals to empower themselves was what gave her purpose, and she wanted to get that back. Mikala has now founded a health and wellness coaching business My Empowerment and the Phoenix Chapter of the Kellman Beat Cancer Bootcamp. In addition to her personal pursuits Mikala works full time work as a Patient Navigator with the Comprehensive Breast Center of Arizona. Mikala will always support breast cancer survivors in Arizona and has a heart for bringing resources to those who need it.
Tiffany House is a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) and financial advisor dedicated to Charitable Planning and helping her clients create a master game plan that incorporates their intellectual, ethical and financial legacy. She is passionate about educating and empowering families regarding financial matters to help them create a legacy of their own design and steward wealth to future generations while considering civic responsibility.
She founded the Gift Planning Institute that provides outsourced planned giving services to non-profit organizations, gift planning strategies for professional advisors and match-making for donors. Tiffany’s experience helping clients donate complicated assets tax efficiently provides a unique opportunity for organizations to benefit from her vantage point. She enjoys collaborating with tax, legal, financial and business transition advisors, but favorite part of consulting is connecting donors to organizations that ignite their passions!
Dr. Raman Mahabir
Board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Raman Mahabir is the former Mayo Clinic Chair of Plastic Surgery. He specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery. His vast experience in microsurgery and DIEP flap breast reconstruction has made him one of the most trusted plastic surgeons.
Dr. Mahabir is committed to his patients and was part of the team that signed the Breast Cancer Patient Education Act into law. He is fellowship trained in aesthetic facial surgery and offers the latest techniques in body contouring for mommy makeovers and tummy tucks. Dr. Mahabir’s expertise provides patients with outstanding, natural results while minimizing discomfort and downtime after surgery.
Taj Rahi-Loo is an attorney who, in January 2019, was appointed to serve as a Judge Pro Tem in the Maricopa County Justice Courts. Taj earned a B.A. in History from Stanford University (’92) and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law (’95). For the past 16 years (2004-2020), Taj stayed busy as a full-time stay-at-home mom to her two sons.
Taj can happily report that her mother is a grateful breast cancer survivor. That journey inspired Taj to continue working to support others in their fight against breast cancer. Taj is proud to be a part of the great work that Don’t Be a Chump! is doing in the local community to help others educate themselves about breast cancer awareness and receive necessary screening and treatment.
Shelley Sakala is about as close to a native Phoenician as they come. She has lived in the valley since she was three years old and has been friends with our founder, Holly Rose, since grade school. Shelley has lived in other parts of the U.S. while working as a broadcast meteorologist and reporter. Her goal was always to land a job back in one of the largest television markets in the country…Phoenix! She did just that and worked for ABC 15 for more than five years before deciding to transition into real estate. Her television experience and extensive knowledge of the entire valley has helped her build a strong referral-based real estate business. Her connections also make here a valuable asset to Don't be a Chump! Check for a Lump! Shelley is the proud mother of two little girls, Sage 8, and Chloe 5 and wife to husband Joe.
In Nancy’s 35 year career she has managed various business arenas for worldwide secure products that included: strategic development/execution of new product launches, new business development, technical delivery services, supply chain partnerships, prime/sub-contracts and negotiations with US Government, commercial, domestic and international market customer-relations management.
Since her retirement from the secure government sector she is now able to focus full time on a business she has cultivated over the years as owner of Harmony Traders, a global enterprise company that specializes in import/export brokerage and retail arbitrage. Nancy is recognized as an international plenary speaker and published author. She presents lectures, seminars, and workshops on management, strategic planning, motivational and industry topics. Through the years Nancy has held leadership positions in academic professional societies and non-profit organizations.
